The Writing Center can help with all types of writing, and we can support you at any point in the writing process. Come to the Writing Center to brainstorm, draft, edit, and/or revise your writing. Tutors help with various genres, including but not limited to: narratives, argument pieces, research papers, and analytical papers.

Our tutors are experienced undergraduate students trained to provide constructive feedback and guide you through the writing process.

Appointment times vary depending on your needs. Appointments are booked in 30-minute increments, but you and your tutor can work to your writing needs.

You can schedule appointments online through WCOnline (See the How-To) or email us (LWC@loyola.edu) if that is your preferred method, and we will make an appointment for you. If you email us, please attach the assignment prompt and any writing you want support with.

When you request and appointment through email, please tell us:

• Your name
• The times you are available
• The class and instructor the assignment is for (if applicable)
• Any accommodations you may need
• Note: if the appointment is for an assignment, a copy of the assignment attached to the email would be helpful.

In a 30-minute appointment, you and your tutor will likely cover 3-4 pages of a piece, depending on the genre. With a longer paper, it would be beneficial to book a one-hour or multiple appointments before the project's due date. In order to ensure each student has equal access to the Writing Center resources, you may not schedule an appointment for longer than an hour.

We do accept walk-ins; however, we recommend scheduling appointments at least 24 hours in advance, especially if you submit a draft for review. 3-5 days' notice is ideal for more complex projects. 

Bring your assignment prompt, any drafts you'd like feedback on, and a list of specific questions or areas you'd like to focus on. 

Yes, submitting your paper at least 24 hours before your appointment is beneficial for in-depth feedback. This allows the tutor to review it beforehand and come prepared for a productive discussion.

That's perfectly fine! We can help you brainstorm ideas, develop a structure, or refine your research strategy, 

Having a list of questions allows you to get the most out of your session; however, it's not mandatory. Your tutor can also guide the conversation based on your needs. 

Your tutor will start by getting to know you and your project and goals for the session. They will then work collaboratively with you to analyze your writing, identify improvement areas, and develop revision strategies.

No, the Writing Center focuses on helping you develop your own editing skills. Tutors will provide guidance and suggestions but won't directly edit your work.
