Background

Rome is the capital of Italy and most populous metropolitan city in Italy. It is located in the central-Western portion of the country and on the banks of the Tiber River. Steeped in over two millennia of history, it shoe cases remnants of grandeur through iconic landmarks such as the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, and the Pantheon. Rome's central location in Europe also makes it a great destination to dive deep into travel, gastronomy, history and Italian culture.

½ñÍíÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û partners with John Cabot University located in the central district of Rome.  JCU was established in 1972 and is a 4-year Liberal Arts University.  John Cabot offers a full range of classes taught in English; subject areas include History, English, Philosophy, Business, Psychology, Italian, and more.  Some classes are held on-campus in a typical classroom and others are held onsite throughout the city of Rome.  Students can benefit from the university's clubs, organizations, and trips.

Students are required to submit a copy of their U.S. health insurance card/policy. Please be sure not to cancel your US insurance policy while abroad since the provided insurances only function while on program and outside of the US.

Money and Banking

Once accepted into the program, students must call their bank and credit card carriers to tell them that they will be abroad for the semester. Students should carry debit or credit cards with them. Both Visa and MasterCard are widely accepted forms of payment, Discover and AmEx are less commonly accepted. Cash in Europe is also widely utilized.

Visa

Students will be required to obtain a student visa before going to Rome for their semester abroad. Visas cost around $60 (prices vary year to year) and will allow students to stay in Italy during the entirety of their program term.

Before departure, students will receive information on how to obtain a residency permit which costs around $40

Travel to and from Rome

Loyola will arrange group travel to and from Rome. While we encourage students to stay for the duration of the program, if necessary, students can change their return date upon completion of final exams, but it would be at their own cost. Loyola does not pay for any flight deviations or tickets changes.

The airline tickets for the group are electronic. The students will receive an email confirmation from our travel agent once ticketing is complete. They should print it out and bring it to the airport just to be safe, but their passport is technically all they need to check in.  It is important that everyone arrives to the airport 3-4  hours in advance. Once they arrive at the airport, they do not need to wait for the rest of the group to check in. Please make sure your student checks in as soon as they arrive and then proceeds through to security. They should check their bags through to Paris.
